I am an enthusiastic, dynamic, and resourceful engineer and scientist dedicated to environmental remediation through air quality monitoring and control. My track record of success in pollutant monitoring, source measurement, analytic chemistry, and innovative aerosol research technology has advanced the body of knowledge of aerosol and atmospheric science. I thrive in energetic but self-driven environments as part of an interdisciplinary collaborative team to confront the impact of degraded air quality on human health and solutions to the near-future environmental challenges climate change will present.
I developed organization, precision, management, communication, and teamwork skills in the fast-paced, high-stress environment of haute cuisine, where over seven years, I worked my way from busboy to sous chef. As a computer engineer, I innovated autonomous measurement solutions, cross instrument communication, and designed and delivered high quality novel instrumentation on schedule. Despite my achievements, the gaps in my knowledge while designing aerosol particle instrumentation and software drove me to pursue a scientific career in field research.
My research in aerosol sources in Kathmandu, Nepal was the first urban deployment of a high-resolution aerosol mass spectrometer in SE Asia. This deployment allowed for the direct chemical speciation of submicron aerosol and determination of its sources. SE Asia is the hardest impacted by air pollution mortality, and Nepal is especially burdened. Kathmandu is a clear example of where natural and anthropogenic mechanisms drive the complication of aerosol source, aging, dispersion, concentration, and dilution. My work in the determination of these processes has potential to reduce source emissions and reduce human exposure risk.
As an action-oriented problem solver, with excellent teamwork, leadership, motivational and communication skills, experienced in aerosol field research, I am eager to save lives by minimizing and mitigating pollution, and create solutions for degraded air quality and climate change impacts. I am eager to continue growing professionally and working to minimize the global impact of aerosols on human health.
